Title supplied by cataloger. When Frank J. McCoy opened the Santa Maria Inn on May 16, 1917, it contained 24 rooms, 24 baths, a kitchen and a dining room. Over the years McCoy added several more guests rooms: 12 additional rooms in 1919, 21 more rooms and a second dining room in 1923, and finally another 28 rooms in 1928. Throughout the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, the inn was a favorite destination for Hollywood celebrities, however its popularity began to fade once Highway 101 opened, forcing it to eventually close. 1981 ushered in a new era for the inn when it was reopened and renovated. Three years later, a six-story tower was added south of the lobby. The lower floor of the tower became a shopping and lounging area which includes the Wine Cellar & Martini Bar, fitness facilities, and banquet rooms. Partial exterior view of the historic Santa Maria Inn, located at 801 South Broadway in Santa Maria. Full grown trees, palms and shrubbery surround the structure.
