Description
This circa 1930 photograph shows the Sacramento Northern Railroad Bridge over the American River at roughly Seventeenth Street. This bridge carried the tracks of the interurban rail system that connected Sacramento, Chico and Oakland. After 1940, the bridge carried a pipeline, though today, the pipeline and railroad tracks have been removed and the bridge is part of the American River bike trail. In the background is the old Western Pacific Railroad Bridge.
