Description
An undated photo of a fish wheel on an unidentified river. A caption accompanying this photo reads "Fish wheel with one of the rotating arms coming out of the water". Fish wheels, now banned in most areas apart from conservation use, were used to catch salmon and other fish in the Pacific Northwest in the late 19th and early to mid 20th centuries. Rotating nets, powered by the current, catch fish and deposit them in a holding device. The fish wheel operates on a floating dock. complete;
