Description
Article about Y.W.C.A assistance towards Japanese American incarcerees. Focus on YWCA. programs within incarceration camps has been towards helping women and girls through recreation, activities, service work, and preparation for resettlement. YWCA representatives have also assisted incarcerees on matters of marriage, juvenile delinquency, etiquette, and vocational education. In all incarceration camps, the YWCA has created and equipped club rooms. Assistance for resettlement included employing Japanese-American girls in YWCA offices, residences, and food service departments as well as employing Japanese American men for maintenance work.
The War Relocation Authority (WRA), together with the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA), the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Office of the Commanding General (OFG) of the Western Defense Command (WDC) operated together to segregate and house some 110,000 men women and children from 1942 to 1945. The collection contains documents and photographs relating to the establishment and administrative workings of the (WDC), the (WRA) and the (WCCA) for the year 1942.
