Description
Text: This is [the] most ancient Bodhi-Tree Shrine of the Abhayagiri Monastery as reported by the Chinese monk Fa-Hien who visited Sri Lanka in the 5th century AD. The Buddha images and the Vajrāsanas (Sacred Seats) found around the Bodhi-Tree and the remains of four construction phases from the first century BC are visible here. The Bodhi-tree that was originally planted here was from a seedling of the Jayasrimaha Bodhi-Tree of India.
