Reverend Donald Merrifield, S.J., was appointed Loyola University's 11th president in 1969. He was the first to lead the merged university after Loyola and Marymount College came together in 1973. He remained president of Loyola Marymount University until 1984. "Groundbreaking for and construction of the Annex to the Charles Von Der Ahe Library brought this pivotal institution to a new level of serviceability.
