Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Photograph caption dated March 6, 1965 reads, "Lt. Commander J. D. Hovater, captain of the Capitaine, takes a moment to light his pipe while the boat is under the hand of a reserve captain. The men like him and say he is steady, iron-nerved and capable of making critical decisions without causing any excitement. The perfect sub skipper, according to the old hands. Also pictured are Lt. Jim Seaton, Res., and Lt. (j.g.) Ross Saxon, regular Navy."
