Photograph of cowboys robbing a steer out of the herd, ca.1890. Two cowboys on horseback have roped one of their cattle by the legs. The rightmost cowboy pulls the steer by its front leg while the leftmost pulls from the back. Two other cowboys make their way towards the animal, a horse standing between them in the foreground. More cattle look on in the right background. Mountains can be seen in the distance. Handwriting along the bottom of the image reads "Roping a Maverick".
