Description
Kenneth Hopper writes Mr. B. Inoue, of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd., saying that Mr. S. Nagasaki has been very kind in translating two of Inoue's articles for him and sharing in discussion. He requests that Inoue write about his experience with the changes that took place in "human relations" in Japanese factories. Hopper believes that one of the world's greatest untold stories is how modern Japanese management and industry was created. He shares that Management Today has expressed strong interest in having an article from Hopper and that the University of Michigan has expressed interest in having any documents he can give them on the evolution of Japanese management. Hopper asks Inoue if he would be willing to write a brief account of the changes that have taken place in Japanese factory management since 1930 and the short history of his experience with group or team work in the years before the formal establishment of QC Circles and Jishu Kanri in the post 1962 years. He goes on to say that his reading of Japanese literature suggests that QC Circles started at the foreman level as an attempt to teach quality control to foremen.
