"Turning from the men and boys, to the girls, we find them similarly adorned. Early as with the boys, the ears are pierced, and the lower lobe slowly dilated, until as you see, they are able to contain large circular blocks of wood and four little fat bits of stick in the upper ear. They wear a frontlet of leather decorated with beads, various in colour, and with little chains dependent therefrom. The set of slides is the gift to the Kikuyu Mission of the Young Peoples Meeting at the Burgh Hall, Hillhead, of which he was for many years a member."
