Description
Plates in: [Photograph album of the creation of West Sacramento, ca. 1910]. Pages [16-18] View 1 (2010-1619). Shows men around Chicago mixer pouring concrete, wheelbarrows. McCurry no. 5077 -- view 2 (2010-1620). Shows two steam rollers grading road -- view 3 (2010-1621). Shows men with shovels, crushing machinery, sandbags. McCurry no. 5079. Also have negatives: no. 26,879 (view 1, 4x5 in.), 26,880 (view 2, 4x5 in.) West Sacramento Company incorporated in 1910 for purpose of developing land west of Sacramento River. Between 1910 and 1913 completed reclamation project that included construction of levees, irrigation system, roads. In 1911 organized area as Reclamation District 900. In 1912, company built road in Riverbank (now Bryte). Was paved with Portland cement and sand.
