John G. Porter was born in Illinois in 1876, immigrated to Fresno in 1906. Worked a variety of trades, but best known as builder and real-estate developer. House built around 1909, possibly by John G. Porter. Lived in house until 1915, when sold to Judge Charles Barnard. House is representative of the Craftsman "bungaloid" house form (incorporating stylistic elements of Tudor and Colonial Revival styles).
