Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Polytechnic High School was founded in 1897 as a commercial branch of the Los Angeles High School. In 1905, Neoclassical style campus buildings were constructed on the corner of Washington Blvd. and Flower St. In 1935, to honor the school's founder and first principal, John H. Francis was added to the school's name Fifty years after the campus on Washington and Flower was built, it was decided that the high school should be relocated to the San Fernando Valley. In 1957, the new John H. Francis Polytechnic High School campus was built in Sun Valley. Photograph caption dated February 21, 1958 reads, "Polytechnic High School's track and field athletes are in the throes of preparing for the 1958 season opener next week and among the top men are Bobby Guerin, left, one of the top sprinters in the Valley, and Bobby Lamoureaux, ace distance man and cross country runner."
