Description
Image of a woman in a hooded cape with a scarf covering her hair attending to wounded soldiers on a battlefield at night under a crescent moonlit sky during the American Civil War; one soldier holds a wounded man for the woman's examination as another holds a torch aloft for illumination; wounded and dead men and horses litter the field.
Printer supplied by cataloger based on printer/publisher history. "Published by Currier & Ives,"--text, bottom left margin. "152 Nassau St New York."--text, bottom right margin. "Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1863, by Currier & Ives, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the United States, for the Southern District of New York."--text, bottom center margin. Unrelated text on verso about an illness, ms. in pencil: "As this is the only day [?] that I shall have for sometime I will answer immediately and will expects [sic] an answer as soon we have been at home..."
