Description
An aerial view of the campus from the early 1950s, looking towards the ocean in a southwesterly direction. The first two University buildings constructed are seen in the middle-lower-right (the Carjola-designed library) and immediately to the left of the eucalyptus windrow (the Soule and Murphy designed Science Building, now Webb Hall). This image clearly shows the large number of Marine Base buildings that were utilized by the University. The row of one-story building on the lower left corner of the photograph were the men's dormitories, the "Old Gym" is along the lower right side of the image, and the sweeping half-circle of two-story buildings which were used as offices and classrooms.
