United States. War Dept. Office of P.R.R. Surveys Davis, Jefferson, 1808-1889 [mory, William H. (William Hemsley), 1811-1887 Humphreys, A. A. (Andrew Atkinson), 1810-1883
Explorer routes through early 1850's. This appears to be half of the map with the bottom half missing. Carefully drawn but no identification. After further research this appears to be the top half of Lieutenant Gouvereur Kemble Warren's 1857 map, from which title, author, date, and publisher info has been drawn. Based on the presence of the Oregon territory, the map must have been made after 1853, which provided a starting point for searching Carl L. Wheat's Mapping the Transmississippi West for a map matching this one. The Huntington owns a reproduction of the full map (RB 342277), as well as a revised edition from the late 1860s (RB 43236 & 127677). Hand drawn rail route from Sacramento east. Prime meridian: GM. Relief: hachures. Graphic Scale: Miles. Projection: Polyconic. Printing Process: Lithography. References: Wheat, Mapping the Transmississippi West, volume 4, page 84. Verso Text: MS notes: 49791 Mr. Maps U.S. W. 186-.
