Description
This late 1890s-early 1900s photo shows Wilson's Livery owned by Jesse W. Wilson. Opened as Pacific Stables in the 1850s, Wilson and his business partner J.A. Mason bought it from Frank S. Malone in early 1874 and within the next few years Wilson was the sole proprietor. In 1881, Wilson moved the stables from their original location on 2nd Street between K and L to the location in the photograph at 316-318 K Street. In the 1890s he briefly operated the shop under the name Wilson & son with his son Arthur. In 1904, the firm Wright & Donnelly purchased Wilson's Stables but continued to run the stables under Wilson's name until it closed in the early 1910s due to the rising popularity of the automobile.
