Photograph caption dated December 20, 1957 reads, "Knowledge of the English language, including the little-known or used word 'cwm' could start Hugh Harlow on the road winning $10,000. Harlow, a Valley Times proof-reader, recently defeated Julian Marks, an Oxford graduate, on the new KTLA word-knowledge program 'Spell Bound' with this three-letter Welsh word, meaning valley or a depression caused by glaciers." Photograph caption reads, "Word-game winner - Hugh Harlow, Valley Times proofreader, will appear tonight on KTLA word-knowledge program 'Spell Bound' attempting to retain his newly acquired championship."
