Description
The winding staircase in the Old Governor's Mansion, which is located at Sixteenth and H Streets, is the subject of this photograph, taken circa 1955. The wife of a previous governor-in-residence at Albert Gallatin's former home ordered the spectacular staircase painted white, leaving only the richly-colored top rail in it's original state.
