Description
Shown is a photograph a Creekside Elementary School kindergarten class during spring 1954. Construction on Creekside Elementary began in July 1952 and was funded by a state aided building program. The school opened on April 6, 1953 with first, second, and third graders transferring immediately from other overburdened schools. Creekside accommodated kindergarten through sixth grade the following school year. The campus, located at 2641 Kent Drive, opened with 14 standard classrooms, multipurpose room, and a kitchen, with an initial capacity to serve 450 students. At the time of this photo, Creekside Elementary was a part of the Arcade School District until merging with the San Juan Unified School District in 1960.
