Description
Scroll reads "Shoufuu issetsu ni kusu" which translated into English means "With one sip I drink in the pine wind." The source of the quote is from the late Southern Sung priest Kaiseki Chihou's poem titled "Keizan sencha". Keizan refers to a temple in the Kouso Prefecture of China, on whose grounds is a spring, named Sekisen no mizu, celebrated for the quality of its waters. The poem speaks of rising early, drawing water from this spring, making tea, and with one sip drinking in all the spirit of the natural world. The calligrapher is Kobayashi Taigen Gitou (b. 1938), abbot of Oubaiin subtemple at Daitokuji from 1975.
