Description
Plates in: [Album of mounted photographs illustrating the work of the California state insectary, Sacramento : Photographs taken from 1910-1912] / California state insectary, Sacramento, pg. 35b. Shows hymenopterus parasite, used to control scale. 2014-1701. The Insectary Division of the Commission of Horticulture was responsible for collecting, breeding and disseminating predaceous insects as a means of controlling harmful insects. As part of that work, they collected and disseminated the native species of ladybird (ladybug) beetle or coccinellids, notably Hippodamia convergens.
