Description
The Clarence W. Pierce School of Agriculture is a two-year community college in Woodland Hills, California. It opened in September 1947, with 70 students and 18 faculty members and is part of the Los Angeles Community College District. The school's initial focus was crop cultivation and animal husbandry, and still retains a large swatch of open fields for hands-on working farm training. In 1956 the school was renamed Los Angeles Pierce College. Photograph caption dated March 10, 1958 reads, "Sheep-shearing at Pierce - Animal husbandry students at Pierce Junior College work together during school's annual sheep-shearing workshop. Shown doctoring and numbering shorn animals are, from left, Jerry Fisher, 21, of Tarzana; Anne Dennis, 17, of Woodland Hills, and Ken Maddox, 35, Hollywood.
