Description
Photograph of a man operating a hoist at mine run by Free Gold Mining Company, Hedges, California, ca.1905. To the left, a man with a moustache wearing overalls and a striped shirt can be seen operating a hoist at mine. A large iron drum winds rope which pulls ore cars (not visible). The boiler, pressure valves, smokestack, pistons, gears, and levers which operate the hoist are clearly visible in this wooden shack. On the side of the drum is the forged word "Patented".
