Description: Burdette Gade, a 60-year-old Spanish-American War veteran, is shown in the Sawtelle Veterans' hobby shop at work on his unusual hobby---making all sorts of gadgets out of seashells. He uses 75 varieties of shells to make all manner of things. Before he started his hobby he had never done any sort of artistic work. Photograph dated July 8, 1940.
