Description
Close-up view of fruit in open boxes. A balance with apricots in pan sits on edge of a box. Exhibit label: Canners usually differentiate prices depending on the number of apricots required to make a pound. Fruit as small as 16 to the pound is ordinarily canned. Even 18s have been put up. 14s are common. 12s used to be A-1 specification. 10s are now tops. The delivery pictured here was purchased "orchard run." None of the fruit was as small as 12 to the lb. It was easy to pick 5s and 6s in considerable quantity. The average was probably 7 or 8 to the lb. The picture shows 4 1/2 apricots making a good, strong pound. This grower was awarded the $25 prize for the best delivery.
