Description
Photograph of a view looking south on the Southern Pacific Long Wharf, or Mile Long Pier, in Pacific Palisades, with the fisherman's village in the foreground, ca.1912. The palisades that give the city its name loom over the village on the left side of the picture, covered sparsely with bushes. The village is composed of a row of simple, dark houses. Under and around a shelter near the water, a group of fishermen can be seen relaxing. The pier was started in 1892 and completed in 1894 and was the longest wharf in the world at 4700 feet.
