Karl was born Sept. 15, 1891 in Sacramento to Charles F. Oehler (born in Gotha, Germany) and Mary E. Kratz. Married Gladys V. Lyon, Oct. 3, 1915. Attended Sacramento High School and Atkinsons Business College. Joined the Army, working as a aviation mechanic.
