A halo is gently implied by light and shadow around his hair. Picture file card reads: "Detail just as Christ is sayng 'Sell that thou hast and give to the poor'. Among the most nearly successful painters of the Saviour, Herr Hofmann may be safely reckoned. He is eminently the Christ painter of modern times and his numerous pictures form the wonderful ife are great favorites with the engravers and th religious sort of art-lovers".
