Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Frank DeSimone graduated from the University of Southern California Law School and became a lawyer in 1933. Soon after, he turned to a life in crime and was an attorney for organized crime figures in Los Angeles. He was the boss of the Los Angeles crime family from 1956 to 1967. He was sometimes referred to as "One Eye" because one of his eyes drooped. Desimone was identified as having attended a 1957 Apalachin "crime convention" at the home of a known gangster in New York in November, 1957. That "convention" led to a federal investigation. Photograph caption dated March 18, 1959 reads "Frank Desimone, unfriendly witness at federal grand jury."
