Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated November 29, 1962 reads "These two schnauzers, owned by Richard and Priscilla Danckwerth of North Hollywood, have donned their Christmas caps to remind the public to shop and mail early this holiday season. Valley postmasters have pointed out the efficient handling of the mail last year because of the shop-and-mail early program helped save $5 million on holiday mail deliveries. The shop-and-mail-early program also permits the maximum number of postal workers to have Christmas off with their families. The new feature of this year's appeal is a 4-cent Christmas stamp--the first postage stamp of its kind ever issued by the Post Office Department."
