Title supplied by cataloger. City, county and state officials joined architects and planners for a news conference on the South Lawn of City Hall to release 1st Now, a 78-page proposal spearheaded by the non-profit group, Project Restore, to turn a two-mile section of First Street, between Grand Avenue and East Los Angeles, into a pedestrian-friendly urban centerpiece for Downtown Los Angeles. The report calls for linking Boyle Heights, Little Tokyo, the Arts District and the Civic Center through a network of landscaping, lighting and street furniture. Four unidentified gentlemen, possibly architects and planners of the project, stand at the base of City Hall steps between easels displaying some of the proposal signs. Although not shown in this photo, Congresswoman Jan Perry (9th District) and U.S. Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (33rd and 34th Districts) were also present at this news conference.
