Description
A child Contra soldier looks intensely at the camera as he poses for a photo as he sits on the ground holding his Soviet Kalashnikov assault rifle while at El Porvenir Farm, located two kilometers from the Honduras-Nicaragua border in June 1983. The Nicaraguan countryside can be seen in the background of the image. Though a child, he is a member of the Nicaraguan Democratic Force (FDN in Spanish), whose members are known informally as "Contras."
