Description
Schoolchildren and their teacher stand in front of Edward Kelley School at 3336 Bradshaw Road on Jan. 2, 1900. As of 2010, the two-room structure was the oldest standing educational institution in Sacramento County. Originally opened in 1869, the school was rebuilt twice after fires in 1874 and 1897 leveled other buildings. It closed in 1953, but was rehabilitated to house a parent observation center and nursery in the 1960s. In 1998, the schoolhouse was repainted, restoring its original tan and brown-colored body with blue eaves.
