Born in 1932 in Los Angeles, Calif. One of the first African American women admitted to University of Southern California School of Law, worked in her own practice. Served in the California State Assembly from 1967-1973; in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1973-1979; and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors from 1979-2008.
