Photograph caption dated July 9, 1956 reads, "Mrs. Dorothy Gerdes is shown sitting in car shortly after she braved flames to rescue her two dogs when house burned to ground at 10310 O'Melveny St., Pacoima, early today. She and husband, Frank, were in home when fire broke out. No injuries were reported."
