Description
In this letter to Edith and Bazil, presumably from Edith's mother, she writes following the news of the birth of her grandson, and discusses where she was when she found out. She inquires about Edith, and shares how she will tell the news to Mrs. Rozelle, Anna, and Mamie.
Letter is signed "mother" but it is presumed that it is from Edith's mother. Although it is not explicitly stated that the letter was in regards to the birth of a baby her inquiry about the labor, and how Edith got through it indicates that it is presumably in regards to welcoming a new grandson. There is no name on the envelope, but it is presumably from Sarah Wilcox Owens, who was married to Dr. William Owens, Edith's father.
The Rozelle collection, ranging from the late 1860's to the early 2000's contains correspondence, photographs, official documents, newspaper clippings, and genealogy information pertaining to the family of Bazil Tillson Rozelle. Letters reflect current and family affairs; and agricultural conditions of Compton in that era. Photographs include family vacations in Catalina Island circa 1890s; Compton, Paramount, and Lynwood areas circa 1890s; World War II boat christening from Terminal Island CA circa 1940s; and mink farming in southern California circa 1940s-1950s.
