Description
This circa-1925 photograph shows the north entrance to the Masonic Lawn Cemetery at 2700 Riverside Boulevard. Beyond an arched gateway with the words “Masonic Lawn” and the Masonic “G” symbol written on it, several headstones and tombs can be seen. The photo was taken from the southern edge of the Sacramento City Cemetery. The roadway in the middle of the photograph eventually was removed to make room for more gravesites. Notable features include the William Beckman sarcophagus on the right side of the photograph and the tomb of the Sacramento Typographical Union, one of the capital city’s oldest labor unions, founded in 1859.
