"Urban campers" wait for the "Christian Ladies" to bring their Saturday morning soup kitchen to Amelia Earhart Park, Easter weekend. Three of them sit at the park bench and another stands with his dog at his side. In 1927, the San Fernando Valley town of Lankershim officially changed its name to North Hollywood. The same year, a $378,000 bond issue was passed to purchase 99-acre North Hollywood Park. Located along Tujunga Avenue on both sides of Magnolia Boulevard, the grassy park features many beautiful trees, picnic tables and jogging paths; on the north side of the park, there is a bronze statue of long-time North Hollywood resident and flight pioneer, Amelia Earhart, who disappeared in 1937 while attempting an around-the-world flight. Photograph dated April 2000.
