Los Alamitos Race Course held its first pari mutuel met in 1951. The race track was owned by Frank Vessels Sr., a general contractor who built the race course on his 435-acre ranch in Cypress, California. In the mid-1980s the course was bought by Frank Allred and in 2014 the track was expanded. The track hosts thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. Photograph caption date stamped April 20, 1964 reads "Less than a length separated the first nine horses in last Thursday's 10-horse sixth race field at Los Alamitos. No. Two, Top Issue, finished a head in front of Kitty Kitten (No. Three), who was a nose in front of the third horse Royal Bonbon (No. One). Then the others were separated by noses, with the exception of the last horse Charlie's Pride (No. Eight) which was two and a quarter lengths behind the next to last horse."
