Generally similar to the thirteenth century French bibles described by Ker, MMBL 1:96-97 regarding London, Lambeth Palace MS 1364, but here lacking the prologue to 2 Paralipomenon and with 9 additional prologues for the Minor Prophets. Title from printed catalog. Support: Parchment. Script: Gothic. Layout: 1-9²⁴ 10²⁴(-21, no loss of text) 11⁸ 12-14²⁴ 15²² 16²⁴ 17²⁴(-24, no loss of text) 18²⁴ 19⁴(through f. 416) 20²⁰ 21-23²⁴ 24²⁴(-24, through f. 530, no loss of text) 25²⁴ 26¹⁴. 2 columns of 47-51 lines in the bible and 3 columns of 51 lines in the Interpretationes, ruled in lead; additional double rules in the upper and lower margins; slash prick marks visible in the lower margin of a few leaves. Decoration: Eighty historiated initials, 12- to 3-line, in blue, maroon and gold with border extensions in the same colors and frequently surmounted by birds. Other Decoration: Prologues introduced by 3-line rinceau initials, often surmounted by birds; 9- to 4-line gold initials on white-patterned blue and maroon grounds/infilling; 2-line initials alternating red with blue flourishing or blue with red, and continuing into red and blue cascade borders. Initials on ff. 405v and in the Interpretations of Hebrew Names in gold on white-patterned beige or blue grounds with infilling of the other color, possibly added later (s. XIV?). Rubrics not always filled in. Attributed by Branner, Manuscript Painting p. 213 to the Gautier Lebaube atelier in Paris. Assigned Date: s. XIII3/4. On f. 530 (erased), s. XV/XVI, "Ista biblia est de libreria magistri Iacobi morelli notarii et secretarii domini nostri regis. Morel," followed by his notary mark; the name and mark appear also on ff. 221, 250, 569. Erased circular bookstamp on f. 1 with impression through onto the following leaves.
