Photograph caption dated February 9, 1960 reads, "Goalie John McCartan stretches out to stop speeding puck during practice with United States Olympic ice hockey team for the tonight's game with Czechoslovakian squad in the Sports Arena. This will be the only game between two teams prior to Winter Olympics competition at Squaw Valley. McCartan starred on University of Minnesota hockey team and is also considered a top professional baseball prospect." John's full name is John William "Jack" McCartan, better known as "Jack".
