Photograph of Spring Street looking north from First Street, Los Angeles, ca.1880-1884. Toward the Downey Block. Horse-drawn vehicles are parked along both sides of the dirt street, while others travel up and down the street which has streetcar rails in the middle of it. One-story commercial buildings predominate, though several are up to three stories high. Legible signs include: "J.T. Stewart dry goods, notions", "boal", "Furrey's hardware store", "H. Jevne, wholesale & retail grocer", "H.J. Woollecotte, fine liquors", and "Auction".
