Description
Photograph of Neft Apartments, Southern California, 1925. " 55-12-32 1925 Neft Apartments on Exposition B[ou]l[e]v[ar]d" -- envelope front. Additional information: Max Neft was in the jewelry business, he came to Los Angeles with his partner, Mernstein (also in jewelry) from Seattle. They were planning to build a very large apartment complex in the location, designed by Harry Genser: "Plans provided by the architect show that the Exposition Boulevard apartment building will be located between Thirty-seventh Place and University avenue at a cost of $550,000. Architect Harry Genser... states that the building will have a frontage of 383 feet on Exposition Boulevard, 240 feet on Thirty-seventh Place and 120 feet on University avenue. This is believed to be the longest apartment house in Los Angeles" -- Los Angeles Times, May 18, 1924. The building, however, was never fully completed, and only a small part of the projected structure was finished.
