Street view of two three-story buildings, each flanked by a two-story building; the three-story on the left has storefronts at street level above which is a partial sign reading "Labor Bureau" and below the address 1012; on its second floor are five vertical windows decorated with pillasters & arches and on its third floor are five vertical windows separated by paired pillasters; building on the right is taller in its three stories; on each floor of right building are six arched windows with a large entablature above the third floor with a roof comb just visible.
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
"Bldg. on left.was 'Adams & Co. Express Banking House' erected in 1853. It was the first bldg. in California to have a granite front, material came from Rocklin quarries.Later, Earl Fruit Co. in 1901. Arcade Hotel, erected in 1870. Known to-day as 'Arcade Rooms'".
