Front page of San Jose News with story on incorporation of Orchard Supply Co., Ltd.: "Articles of incorporation of the Orchard Supply Co., Ltd., has been filed today and plans were complete to open the firm for business Monday morning at 230 Bassett Street. The membership roster bears the names of 160 growers who are producer members of co-operative marketing organizations. Although all growers may purchase from the organization, only those who are members will receive the benefit of large savings made possible by the greater purchasing power of the corporation. Non-members may purchase fertilizer, sprays, spray materials and other commodities from the organization at the regular retail price, according to Stanley B. Smith, manager. The corporation is non-profit, all members paying a uniform fee. Mr. Smith is well-known here, having been a department manager in a local store for five years. Incorporation was under the standard co-operative marketing laws of the State. Incorporating directors were L. W. Armstrong, R. O. Atkinson, W. W. Curtner, Lloyd Edwards, S. D. Farrington, G. G. Loyst, George C. Payne, H. Mitchell and Stanely B. Smith."
