Description
Fourth Sunday after Easter. Introit "Cantate Domino". Historiated initial "C" with miniature scene of Christ proclaiming the coming of the Holy Spirit to his disciples, a scroll proceeds from Christ's mouth bearing his words, "Cum autem venerit spiritus veritatis docebit vos omnem veritatem" ["When he comes who is the Spirit of truth, he will guide you into all the truth", John 16:13, from the gospel for the day, John 16:5-14]. In the background two men climb a rocky path to a distant castle. Illuminated border of brushed gold with classical pedestals, vases, flowers, and berries is unique in this collection, suggestive of an Italianate rather than northern style.
