Samuel Southey Hinds born in 1875 in Brooklyn, New York. Spent early part of his life as lawyer, moving to California in 1908, settling in Pasadena. Active in theatre as amateur, turned professional when lost fortune during stock market crash. Architects for La Loma Road house were Marston and Van Pelt.
