This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text under photo: "South side of Market Street bet 1st & 2nd Streets 1880. This picture is to the right hand of the photo above it." Text written on photo: "Harpending Block." View looks roughly east. The three-story building is actually on the south side of Market at Ecker, according to "Victorian San Francisco, the 1895 Illustrated Directory." Businesses seen in photo are E.H. Jones & Co., H. Lash, Sternfeld Bros. & Co., Muser Bros., and Cobliner Bros. Many of the business signs look retouched.
