Photo of the largest grape vine, believed to have been planted in 1842 by Joaquina Ayala. At the time this photograph was taken, the girth of the vine's trunk was 7', the sprawling vine required 2 acres of arbor to support it (partially visible here), and it produced approximately 8 tons of grapes per year. It was suggested that it become a public park in the 1920s, but no action was taken. After years of neglect, the vine eventually died. This information, which was provided on the verso of the image, originally came from an August 13, 1972 article from the Santa Barbara News.
